Labor Day

Make the Most of Labor Day Weekend in Vegas at Plaza!

With summer winding down, there is still time to revel in the warmer weather for one last celebration in Las Vegas on Labor Day Weekend!

Known for its rich history and bustling resurgence, Downtown Las Vegas is an epi-center of arts, inspired cuisine and “old Vegas” entertainment that strikes a passionate chord among many locals and visitors alike.

The home of Vegas’ annual Life is Beautiful festival, Downtown Las Vegas draws crowds for the largest of the city’s parties, which makes it the perfect destination for Labor Day Weekend festivities.

As a proud part of the heart and soul of the Downtown Vegas movement, Plaza is excited to play host to your Labor Day Weekend getaway!

Where to Stay

You might be thinking, “It doesn’t matter where we stay in Vegas, we’re not going to be spending that much time in our room, right?”

Wrong!

Well, you actually may not spend that much time in your room, and we wouldn’t blame you, but hear us out.

Especially on busy holidays, location is everything. Example – pools are some of the most populated destinations on Labor Day Weekend, and where you stay can impact how much access you have to a good one (without paying extra).

Where you choose to stay should reflect the type of experience you are seeking out in Las Vegas. We believe the three best attributes to consider when booking a room in Las Vegas are proximity, features that are important to you (such as dining, entertainment & amenities – like a killer pool, for example) and value (service/amenities + cost/affordability).

What to Do

“BEHIND CLOSED DOORS”

by D*Face

Bringing another member of his family of dysfunctional comic book characters to life, D*Face’s “Behind Closed Doors” is not only his fifth mural in Downtown Las Vegas, but his largest to date. D*Face’s other downtown works are located throughout the Fremont East Entertainment District and include “Love Forever,” “Peace Maker,” and “I Gave Her My Heart, And She Left Me For…”

“I get to stay in many varied hotels in many cities, as such I’ve become fascinated with the comings and goings in these dwellings, the people, the stories, the lives that have been before,” said D*Face. “I wanted to play and use the architecture to present a mural to the public that is both a reference to and, I hope, a homage to hotel life.”

We’ve already mentioned pools, and you should absolutely spend some time lounging by one, or many, during your stay – especially since Labor Day Weekend is one of the last big pool weekends each year in Las Vegas.

But there are also beautiful nature excursions to nearby Lake Mead, Red Rock and Mount Charleston, in addition to museums, thrill rides, music, comedy and more!

Some of our favorite destinations in downtown Las Vegas include:

Neon Museum – an outdoor museum dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the city’s history as told through neon lights and signs. Guided walking tours are offered daily.

Mob Museum –  designed by the world-class team behind Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the mob museum gives visitors an interactive journey through true-life stories that date back to the birth of the Mob and their active presence in the city’s history.

SLOTZILLA – a thrilling zip line adventure ride that passes right through the Fremont Street Experience.

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts – Smith Center is a world-class performing arts theater that hosts everything from Broadway, jazz, ballet and the Las Vegas Philharmonic.

Getting Around

Holiday weekends in Las Vegas almost always equate to increased traffic and commute times. However, do to the intimacy of the neighborhood in comparison to the rest of Las Vegas, downtown offers a much more manageable exploration on foot.

With cab stands at every hotel and the arrival of ride share services such as Uber, getting to and from the Strip from downtown is now easier than ever too.

If you’re planning to drive into town or are picking up a rental, ample parking is available citywide and is generally anywhere from free to extremely affordable. Just be safe and have a designated driver ahead of time.
