History

Helldorado Days Rodeo: A Las Vegas Tradition Since 1936

The Helldorado Days Rodeo in Las Vegas began in 1936 to honor Hoover Dam workers and quickly became a beloved Las Vegas rodeo tradition. After pausing in the late 1990s, this historic Las Vegas event was revived in 2005 for Las Vegas’s 100th birthday. In 2019, The Plaza Hotel & Casino Las Vegas proudly became the host of the Helldorado Days Rodeo at CORE Arena, the historic site of the 1905 land auction that marked the founding of downtown Las Vegas.

Helldorado Days is one of Las Vegas’s longest-running rodeo events, celebrating Nevada’s Wild West heritage and authentic cowboy culture. This Las Vegas family event features a western festival each evening before professional rodeo action, including:

  • Las Vegas petting zoo & mechanical bull rides
  • Carnival rides, western games & line dancing lessons
  • Kids’ Mutton Bustin’ competition & family contests
  • Helen Jane Stewart Award Ceremony
